Trouble with your local telephone service can exists in only two places. The first place is in Newroads' telephone network. The second place is with the inside wiring at the residence or business. The place where these two sections meet is call the DMARC (Demarcation Point), or sometimes called the NID (Network Interface Device).
The DMARC is the place where the Newroads service connects to the inside wiring. This point is the best place to test any local telephone trouble (No dialtone, static, etc) because it can allow you to test both sides of the connection.
The pictures below show a typical DMARC box. Not all DMARCs look like this. Businesses and older homes may have a DMARC or NI that looks different, but they all serve the same purpose; to connect the telephone network to the inside wiring.
Using the typical DMARC below as an example, you can open the box and plug a regular phone into the network jack. The network jack, pictured below as GREEN, is like a standard telephone jack inside your home, but it connects directly to the telephone network. If you plug a phone into this jack, you are connected directly to the telephone network and are bypassing your inside wiring. This is an important test, because, if you hear static while inside your house, but do not hear static while plugged into this jack, then the static problem is being cause by your inside wiring. If you hear the static while you are plugged into the green jack, then the problem is either with your phone or with the Newroads telephone network.
It is important to note that Newroads Telephone service, just like Southwestern Bell, SBC, stops at the DMARC.
The reason it is important to determine where the problem is located is because Newroads will repair any Newroads Telephone Network problem free of charge. Any work that this required to fix a Network issue is our responsability and we will work to get it completed as soon as possible. BUT, if the problem is with the inside wiring, additional hourly charges can apply for Newroads to repair any inside wiring issues.
If a trouble is called in to Newroads for a repair and a technician is sent to repair the Newroads Telephone Netork, the technician will go to the DMARC and check for the trouble. If the trouble is not found at the DMARC, then a truck roll fee will be charged and the technician will leave. That means you will be charged a fee and still have the problem! So, it is important to check the DMARC before calling Newroads for a repair.
If the problem is with the Inside Wiring, you have a few options.
You can try to repair it yourself. - It could be a simple issue like a loose wire or a bad jack inside your house. The inside wiring side of the DMARC is designed for you to access your inside wiring. Most hardware stores can provide the materials and information on how to repair these issues, or you could research it yourself on the Internet. Our DMARC section of the website can also give some hints about repair.
You can hire a technician or electrician to repair the problem. - The yellow pages usually have several ads for people that can do these repairs. Newroads will not recommend or suggest any one particular provider. As with selecting any home repair company, it is important to do your homework and find a reputable repair technician.
You can hire Newroads Telecom to repair the problem. - Newroads currently charges $105 per hour for Inside Wiring repair. Travel time may also be charge, depending on your location.
